Freestyle Chess and Chess.com Announce Major Partnership

„A significant step towards establishing Freestyle Chess as a global spectator sport“

Singapore, November 2024 – Freestyle Chess OpCo, the organizer of the Freestyle Chess Grand Slam Tour, and Chess.com, the world’s leading online chess platform, announced a ground breaking partnership today at the inaugural Freestyle Chess Summit in Singapore.

The partnership encompasses marketing, promotion, advertising, and endorsements. Chess.com will stream the Grand Slam Tour and deliver extensive coverage across its platform and social media channels. In addition, the platform will host the online qualifying tournaments for the Tour.

“Our partnership with Chess.com is a significant step towards establishing Freestyle Chess as a global spectator sport,” said Jan Henric Buettner, co-founder of Hamburg-based Freestyle Chess. “Our innovative format, combined with Chess.com’s reach and expertise, will engage both the chess community and new audiences worldwide.”

Danny Rensch, Chief Chess Officer of Chess.com, added: “Freestyle Chess brings fresh energy, creativity, and fun to the game, both on and off the board. We’re thrilled to support Buettner’s vision for the future of chess.”

Founded in 2024 by Buettner and world number-one chess player Magnus Carlsen, Freestyle Chess will launch its Grand Slam Tour in 2025, with events scheduled for Germany, France, the U.S., India, and South Africa.
